Community, companionship and cream tea during a visit to Blacklands Church.

At Mountside Care Home, we know that life in care doesn’t stop at the front door and that spending time in the wider community is a vital part of staying connected, joyful, and engaged. That’s why we were absolutely delighted to attend the recent fellowship afternoon at Blacklands Church — and what a lovely time we had!

The afternoon was filled with friendly faces, uplifting conversation, and lots of laughter. Our residents enjoyed a fantastic quiz that tested both memories and wit, bringing out plenty of smiles (and a little friendly competition!). We then settled in for a delicious cream tea; although the “jam or cream first?” debate is still going strong here at Mountside!

Spending time outside of the care home and building relationships with others in the local area is more than just a nice day out — it’s essential for wellbeing. These moments help residents feel valued, seen, and included in the life of their community.

Visits like these offer a sense of belonging, remind us of shared values, and spark joy that lasts long after we return home.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Blacklands for such a warm welcome and a truly uplifting afternoon. Your kindness and hospitality mean so much to us all — we can’t wait to visit again soon.

At Mountside, we believe that care is about living, not just receiving care. Days like this remind us just how much joy, connection, and meaning there is to be found beyond our walls.
