Mountside Care Home is buzzing with excitement as residents embark on a new adventure in home gardening. Responding to the residents’ desire to grow their own vegetables, the care home’s dedicated maintenance man, Sean, sprang into action, constructing raised planters to kickstart their gardening journey.

A New Gardening Initiative: The idea to grow their own vegetables came from the residents themselves, who were eager to engage in a hands-on, rewarding activity. Sean’s quick and skilful creation of the raised planters provided the perfect solution, making gardening accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

“We’re so enthusiastic about the idea of growing their own veggies,” said Kimberley, Activities Coordinator at Mountside Care Home Care Home. “Sean did an incredible job with the planters, and it’s wonderful to see the residents so engaged and excited.”

The gardening club at Mountside Care Home has been hard at work, planting and nurturing a variety of vegetables. Their efforts are already bearing fruit—literally. Yesterday, Jimmy, one of the club’s most passionate members, proudly presented the first homegrown courgettes to the care home’s talented chef.

“Seeing the courgettes grow and being able to share them with our chef was such a proud moment,” Jimmy said with a beaming smile. “It’s amazing to see what we’ve accomplished together.”

The homegrown courgettes and other vegetables will be used by the care home’s chef to prepare delicious, fresh meals for the residents. This garden-to-table approach enhances the dining experience and highlights the benefits of growing their own food.

The success of the initial project has inspired everyone to continue exploring the joys of gardening. A heartfelt thanks to Sean for his quick action and to the gardening club for their dedication and hard work.
