VE Day at Mountside Care Home was a moving and memorable celebration, beautifully blending reflection with joyful festivity.

The afternoon began with a powerful reminder of the past, as residents listened to the iconic wartime speeches of Winston Churchill. The stirring words set a reflective tone, honouring the courage and resilience of those who lived through the Second World War.

Next came a lively WW2-themed quiz, sparking cherished memories and a healthy dose of friendly competition among residents. Laughter, shared stories, and a few tricky questions made it a standout part of the day.

But the highlight was undoubtedly the heart-warming performance of “Songs That Won the War”, delivered by Mountside’s very own activity coordinators Kimberley and Shelagh. Their musical tribute had everyone waving flags, singing along, and even dancing—transforming the lounge into a joyful scene straight out of 1945.

And of course, no VE Day celebration would be complete without some classic British treats. A stunning Union Jack cake took centre stage, served with comforting cups of tea—the ultimate wartime morale booster and still a firm favourite today.

It was an afternoon filled with gratitude, music, and togetherness—a truly fitting tribute to a generation that gave so much.
