Welcoming our feathered friend bird rescue with a big impact
Life at The Old Rectory is never short of surprises — and this week, we welcomed a very special (and very tiny!) new face to our care home community.
Our newest arrival wasn’t a resident or staff member, but a little baby bird who had found itself in need of help. Found near the home and clearly struggling, our caring team stepped in without hesitation. We safely gathered up the young stray and took it straight to a local bird rescuer who could provide the care it needed to thrive.
Living by the coast, we’re lucky to be surrounded by an array of beautiful birds — and we’re passionate about supporting the local wildlife that shares our seaside space. Whether it’s sparrows chirping in the hedges or the iconic gulls flying overhead, these feathered neighbours bring joy to residents and staff alike.
We even have our very own resident gull, affectionately known as “Gully,” who pops by regularly to knock on the door for his favourite snack — sandwich crusts! Gully has become part of daily life at The Old Rectory and never fails to bring a smile.
Helping our feathered friends — from rescues to feeding routines — reminds us all that small acts of kindness make a big difference. It’s moments like these that brighten our day, lift our spirits, and reinforce the values we hold dear: compassion, community, and care for all living things.
Whether winged or two-legged, everyone is welcome here at The Old Rectory!
