At Mountside Care Home, fitness is never just about exercise. It is about movement, confidence, laughter, connection and creating joyful moments that everyone can enjoy in their own way.
After a wonderful Easter filled with feasting, festivities and plenty of sweet treats, residents have been hopping back into their exercise routines with smiles, energy and a brilliant sense of fun. The recent fitness sessions at Mountside have shown once again that staying active can be enjoyable, sociable and full of laughter.
One of the highlights was a playful session with a beach ball and a very funny twist taking aim at a pair of “pig pants”. It was light-hearted, cheerful and perfectly on target in more ways than one.
Activities like this are a wonderful reminder that fitness does not have to feel formal or intimidating. For many people, the best way to keep moving is through games, humour and shared enjoyment. A beach ball, a simple target and a room full of encouragement can turn gentle exercise into a memorable experience.
The session encouraged everyone to stretch, reach, focus and move, while also providing a reason to laugh together. These are the moments that help make life at Mountside feel warm, engaging and full of personality.
The home also enjoyed another fantastic session with G-Fitness, which has become something to look forward to. Rather than feeling like a traditional exercise class, the sessions feel more like a friendly get-together, filled with good vibes, encouragement and plenty of smiles.
Using foam batons that aid stretching, test mobility and enable gentle movement in a safe and supportive way. Keeping active is so important in later life, helping to support mobility, flexibility, balance and general wellbeing. However, at Mountside Care Home, the focus is always on making movement feel positive and achievable. Everyone is encouraged to take part at their own pace, with activities adapted so that everyone can enjoy the benefits in a way that works for them.
For some, that might mean joining in with every movement. For others, it may be taking part from a chair, watching, clapping along, smiling with friends or enjoying the social atmosphere. Every level of involvement matters.
The beauty of these sessions is that they support both physical and emotional wellbeing. Gentle movement helps the body, but the laughter, conversation and sense of togetherness are just as valuable. A shared joke, a cheer from across the room or a moment of success can lift everyone’s spirits.
After the Easter celebrations, the return to fitness was the perfect way to bring fresh energy into the home. It gave everyone a chance to move, reconnect and enjoy something active without pressure. The mood was cheerful, relaxed and full of encouragement.
The Mountside team understands that meaningful activities are a vital part of care home life. They help structure the day, support independence, encourage social interaction and experiences to look forward to. Fitness sessions, especially when delivered with fun and creativity, are a brilliant example of this approach.
By introducing playful ideas, such as beach ball games and foam baton exercises, the team helps remove any sense of exercise being a chore. These sessions bring people together to cheer each other on, share laughs and celebrate small achievements. It creates a lovely community atmosphere and helps people feel connected, included and valued.
At Mountside Care Home, care is about much more than meeting daily needs. It is about supporting people to enjoy life, stay engaged and experience moments of happiness. Fitness, when approached with imagination and warmth, becomes another way to do exactly that.
The recent sessions have been full of smiles, movement and good humour. From aiming at the pig pants to stretching with foam batons, keeping active can be fun, sociable and wonderfully entertaining.
Everyone is already looking forward to the next session with G-Fitness and the next opportunity to move, laugh and enjoy time together.
