There is always something happening at Mountside Care Home, and that’s exactly how we like it.
Life here is full of laughter, conversation, new experiences and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the things that make each day special. Whether we’re sampling delicious doughnuts, baking football-themed cupcakes, testing our penalty-taking skills, cheering on England during the World Cup or cooling off with refreshing mocktails, every activity is designed around one simple idea – helping residents enjoy life to the fullest.
At Mountside, activities are much more than entertainment. They are an important part of our person-centred approach to care, encouraging social interaction, supporting wellbeing and giving residents the freedom to enjoy the interests that matter most to them.
A Home That Celebrates Every Occasion
Major sporting events have a wonderful way of bringing people together.
The World Cup has once again created excitement across the country, and at Mountside Care Home we were delighted to join in the celebrations. From friendly football competitions to themed baking and match-day treats, the tournament gave us plenty of opportunities to enjoy the atmosphere together.
Many of our residents have spent decades following football, supporting their favourite teams or watching major tournaments with family and friends. Bringing those traditions into our home helps rekindle treasured memories while creating new ones together.
It isn’t just about the football.
It’s about sharing excitement, conversation and moments that everyone can enjoy.
Kicking Off Our Own Football Fun
Watching football is always enjoyable, but joining in ourselves proved even more entertaining.
Residents embraced their competitive spirit by taking part in their own football challenges, aiming carefully at goal and showing off some surprisingly impressive footwork.
There were cheers for every successful shot, plenty of encouragement from the sidelines and lots of laughter when the ball didn’t quite go where it was intended.
Activities like these are an excellent way to encourage gentle movement, coordination and balance while ensuring everyone can participate at their own pace.
The focus is never on winning.
It is about taking part, having fun and celebrating each other’s successes.
Sharing Our Fancy Footwork
Who says football skills are only for professionals?
Residents thoroughly enjoyed demonstrating their own fancy footwork, proving that enthusiasm is far more important than age.
Some showed off careful ball control, while others preferred passing between friends or simply joining in with the excitement from the comfort of their chair.
Adaptable activities like these mean everyone can become involved regardless of mobility or physical ability.
Whether someone was taking the perfect penalty or simply clapping along with every goal, everyone was part of the occasion.
Baking Football-Themed Cupcakes
No celebration would be complete without something delicious to enjoy.
Our baking sessions took on a football theme as residents decorated colourful cupcakes inspired by the World Cup.
From green icing representing football pitches to football-inspired decorations, creativity flowed as residents chatted about memorable matches and favourite teams while adding the finishing touches.
Baking is one of those activities that naturally brings people together.
It encourages conversation, teamwork and creativity while stimulating the senses through mixing, decorating, tasting and, of course, enjoying the finished cakes.
The smell of freshly baked treats also creates a wonderfully homely atmosphere throughout the care home.
Doughnut Tasting – Discovering New Favourites
Another highlight was our delicious doughnut tasting session.
Residents sampled a tempting selection of flavours, discussing their favourites and comparing traditional classics with newer varieties.
For some, it brought back happy memories of family bakery visits or seaside holidays, while others simply enjoyed trying something a little different.
Taste-testing activities may seem simple, but they stimulate conversation, encourage decision-making and offer opportunities to explore new experiences together.
Sometimes the biggest smiles come from life’s smallest pleasures.
Refreshing Mocktails for Sunny Days
With the warmer weather continuing, staying hydrated has never been more important.
Our colourful mocktail tasting session proved to be the perfect way to cool down while enjoying something refreshing and fun.
Residents sampled a range of fruity flavours, discovering new favourites while chatting with friends in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere.
The vibrant drinks looked every bit as good as they tasted, adding a splash of colour to the day and helping everyone stay refreshed before moving on to the next activity.
Hydration plays an important role in maintaining health and wellbeing, particularly during warmer months, so combining healthy choices with enjoyable social experiences makes perfect sense.
More Than Just Activities
At Mountside Care Home, activities are carefully chosen to support overall wellbeing.
Every game, baking session or tasting experience offers benefits beyond simple enjoyment.
They encourage residents to:
- Stay socially connected.
- Maintain confidence.
- Exercise choice and independence.
- Stimulate memory and conversation.
- Keep physically and mentally active.
- Continue learning and trying new things.
Most importantly, they create opportunities to laugh together.
Those shared moments are often what residents remember most.
Every Resident Is Different
No two residents have lived the same life, so naturally their interests are wonderfully varied.
Some love music.
Others enjoy baking.
Some like games and quizzes.
Others prefer sporting activities or spending time chatting over refreshments.
That is why our activities programme reflects the personalities of the people who live here.
Person-centred care means listening carefully to residents, understanding what they enjoy and providing opportunities that help them continue doing the things they love while also introducing new experiences.
Whether someone joins every activity or simply enjoys watching with friends, every contribution is valued.
Creating a Vibrant Community
One of the greatest benefits of an engaging activities programme is the sense of community it creates.
Activities naturally encourage friendships to grow.
Residents discover shared interests, celebrate achievements together and support one another throughout the day.
Families visiting the home often comment on the warm atmosphere, seeing residents chatting, laughing and enjoying themselves together.
This sense of belonging is incredibly important.
Feeling connected to others helps support emotional wellbeing and contributes to a genuine feeling of home.
Every Day Brings Something New
One of the things residents often tell us they enjoy most about life at Mountside Care Home is that no two days are ever quite the same.
One day may involve football fun and themed baking.
The next could include music, games, creative activities or time relaxing together.
Having variety keeps life interesting and ensures there is always something to look forward to.
Residents can continue enjoying lifelong hobbies while discovering completely new experiences along the way.
That balance of familiarity and new opportunities helps keep each day fresh, engaging and rewarding.
Making Mountside Feel Like Home
Home is about far more than comfortable surroundings.
It is about enjoying meaningful experiences, sharing laughter with friends and feeling free to spend your day doing the things that bring happiness.
At Mountside Care Home, our activities are shaped by the people who live here. Whether we’re embracing World Cup fever with football-themed fun, tasting delicious doughnuts, decorating cupcakes, perfecting our penalty kicks, showing off our fancy footwork or enjoying refreshing mocktails together, every activity reflects the interests and personalities of our residents.
It is these shared moments that make daily life so enjoyable.
It is these experiences that create lasting memories.
And it is this vibrant, person-centred approach that makes Mountside Care Home such a wonderful place to live, where every day brings new opportunities to smile, connect and embrace whatever comes next.
