A nostalgic afternoon of bagatelle at The Old Rectory Care Home during retro gaming fun.

At The Old Rectory Care Home, we love discovering (or rediscovering!) games that spark fun, focus, and friendly competition; and this week we went old-school with a round of bagatelle.

For those unfamiliar, bagatelle is a historic tabletop game dating back to the 18th century, originally developed in France. A precursor to the modern pinball machine, it quickly became a pub favourite here in Britain, where players aim to flick small balls up the board, hoping to land them in high-scoring pockets.

Our tabletop version brought out everyone’s inner competitor as we took turns launching the balls, testing our aim, and celebrating every lucky shot. The hope of a high score had us all smiling, cheering each other on, and enjoying a few light-hearted rivalries along the way!

In a world of modern tech and touchscreens, there’s something wonderfully refreshing about going retro. We enjoyed stepping back in time with this timeless game. Here’s to high scores, good company, and the charm of traditional games!
